Ajman Sewerage starts key network expansion work

AJMAN, June 21, 2016

UAE-based Ajman Sewerage, a government venture in partnership with leading international water treatment experts Besix and Veolia, has started work on two major expansion projects at an investment of Dh75 million ($20.4 million).

The work involves the construction of a major 10-km sewerage pressure line between Ajman City and Ajman Sewerage’s treatment plant, as well as a 40-km sewer gravity network in Ajman’s Al Jurf Industrial Zones 1 and 3.

Upon completion, a strategic pipeline will increase the capacity and safety performance of the underground network and an additional 10,000 properties will be connected to the sewerage system, said a statement from the utility company.

Al Marfaa Contracting Company and Darwish Engineering Emirates have been signed up for the two projects, respectively.

Ajman Sewerage said these projects will further help expand its network coverage while increasing the overall capacity and safety performance of its wastewater collection and transportation system.

After completion, this will enable the utility company to connect and serve about 10,000 existing and future properties, in addition to the 130,000 properties that it currently serves, said a top official.

"We will also continue to expand the sewerage network in other areas to the benefit of Ajman’s residents," said Christophe Ledur, Ajman Sewerage’s general manager.

Other projects in the pipeline include the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant, which was awarded to Besix/Six Construct in 2015 and is expected to be completed by end of this year.

This will eventually allow treatment of up to 120 million litres of wastewater every day, stated Ledur.

The company continues supporting viable schemes for treated water re-use through either irrigation of green areas in Ajman or other industrial uses, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
