Bahrain road project work nearing completion

The infrastructure project work in the Northern Governorate of Bahrain is progressing well with about 67 per cent of the job, including the paving of dirt roads at Sadad and Karzakan, already completed.

Work is presently underway to complete the storm water drainage network and implement the asphalt layer on the remainder roads in the block, besides lighting and signage works, said a statement from Ministry of Works, Municipalities & Urban Planning.

The BD465,291 ($1.22 million) project was awarded to Gulf Horizon International Trading Establishment, it stated.

Sayyed Bader Alawi, the roads projects and maintenance director at the ministry pointed out that paving of dirt roads in Block 1038 in Sadad (Road 3813) and Block 1026 in Karzakan was on track.

The project involves paving a total of 4.9km long roads; civil and paving works, implementing ground channels for present and future use, implementing a storm water drainage network, installing a new lighting network, painting works and signage, stated Alawi.  

According to him, the Dirt Roads Program was part of the government’s program aimed at improving infrastructure in the kingdom, giving priority to the paving of dirt roads in urban areas and creating an integrated roads network in all areas in the kingdom, in co-ordination with the municipal councils and the Capital General Secretariat.

The project has been included within the government’s work plan for 2015-2016 and will cater to 170 residential units in both villages besides alleviating traffic congestion and creating 45 parking spaces.

Also the ministry said it has achieved 80 per cent progress in the paving of dirt roads in Burhama Block 351. The BD518,445 ($1.36 million) project is being implemented by Bahrain Motors.

The project, which involves paving of 7km roads, civil and asphalting works, implementing a storm water drainage network, ground channels for future use, lighting, signage and painting ground marks, aims to serve 60 housing units and alleviate traffic in the area.-TradeArabia News Service
