Bahrain starts key sanitary network upgrade

Work has started on a major sewerage network project in the Salmabad area of Bahrain besides the paving of dirt roads in the area, said senior government officials.

The BD690,000 ($1.8 million) road project is being implemented by Atlas Transportation. The work at Road 1409 and the environs in Block 714 includes a storm water drainage network, plastic ground channels for future use, lighting and signage.

Roads projects and maintenance director at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Sayyed Bader Alawi said the sewerage works and the road works have been combined into one project in order to save time and integrate the services provided to residents of the block.

The project is expected to serve 100 housing units, he stated.

Work comprises of removing the existing dirt layer and replacing it with two different layers including an asphalt layer of standard specifications, implementing a sewerage network to serve Block 714 and part of Block 708 - where the old pumping station will be removed and replaced with a new one of a higher capacity.

Elsewhere, the ministry has started work on a sewerage network in Block 411 in Musala at the Capital Governorate.

The sanitary engineering assistant undersecretary at the ministry Asma Murad said the project involves extending 780-m-long main connections and 380-m-long sub-connections besides construction of 100 inspection chambers for both the main and sub-connections and connecting 42 houses and lands to the network.

The BD243,820 ($641,412) project was awarded to Abdul Hadi Al Afu.-TradeArabia News Service
