Bahrain's massive housing project on track

MANAMA, May 9, 2016

Work on the massive East Sitra Town residential project in Bahrain is progressing as per schedule with 95 per cent of the reclamation phase completed, said a report.

The East Sitra Town is one of the biggest projects featuring in the Government Action Plan (GAP) to construct 25,000 housing units by 2018, reported the BNA.

The project will see the construction of 3,180 housing units, stated the report, citing the housing minister Bassem bin Yacoub Al Hamer.

The project stems from royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to construct 40,000 housing units across the kingdom, it stated.

After reviewing the progress, Al Hamer said the ministry would start work on the first phase of the project later this year.

In another development, the ministry said it will start distributing 293 housing units at Hunainya project to eligible recipients, taking into account the dates of submitting applications.

Built on a 15.32-hectare area, the Hunainya project comprises 293 units, in addition to open spaces, playgrounds, shopping outlets and two mosques.
