Empower awards contract for district cooling plant

DUBAI, April 18, 2016

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has awarded a contract for a major project in the Jumeirah region of Dubai, UAE, that will add up to the company’s production by 30,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT), said a senior official.

The contract entails providing professional consultancy services for the full design, engineering, contract administration, construction supervision and project management of the company’s district cooling plant located in Jumeirah project area.

“Being the world’s largest district cooling services provider in terms of capacity, Empower continuously work on increasing our operations to cater to the needs of our rapidly increasing client-base across Dubai,” remarked its CEO Ahmad Bin Shafar.

This contract, he stated, was part of the company's strategy to further build its capacities and expand its footprint in Dubai.

The contract serves Empower’s endeavours to extend its district cooling network in the Jumeirah area as the company by the virtue of this contract has connected Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel via a semi-permanent plant room which will later be converted to a permanent plant.

The new contract covers Empower’s projects for Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Al Qasr Palace, Jumeirah Al Naseem hotel, Mina A'Salam hotel, Dar Al Masyaf Hotel, Souq Madinat Jumeirah, Wild Wadi and The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, stated Bin Shafar.

The contract awarded was part of significant expansion of the company’s operations, which currently commands a share of over 70 per cent of the district cooling market in Dubai, he added.
