80pc of Riyadh housing projects completed

Saudi government said more than 80 per cent of the housing projects being developed on a 5 million sq m area west of the King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in capital Riyadh have been completed.

More than 80 per cent of the housing projects being developed by the Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Housing on a 5 million sq m area west of the King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in capital Riyadh have been completed, said a report.

These include 2,242 plots of land with infrastructure, water networks, electricity, communication facilities, in addition to 606 apartments, reported Arab News.

The ministry said it was currently working to provide more residential homes for nationals in Riyadh, whose population as of last year touched 4.9 million. Of this about 68 per cent are Saudis, said the report.

The KKIA scheme is part of a project that provides for the provision of 2,848 housing units that include integrated facilities for qualified applicants, it added.

The government is working on several options to provide cheap and quality homes, said the report. This includes the construction of high-quality condominium units which have become very popular in other countries, it added.
