Dewa in key Smart Dubai intiative

DUBAI, February 10, 2016

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Microsoft in line with its plans to make optimal use of modern technologies to achieve the Smart Dubai initiative.

The deal promotes co-operation between the two sides in exchanging knowledge and expertise, development of solutions and applications, and enhancing innovation across the UAE and the GCC, said  Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive of Dewa after signing the deal with Samer Abu Ltaif, the regional general manager, Microsoft Gulf at the ongoing World Government Summit in Dubai.

"Dewa supports the strategy of our wise leadership by adopting innovation and excellence to provide the best quality and efficient services. This partnership with Microsoft reflects our continuous efforts to use state-of-the-art technologies in the utility's operations," he noted.

"It also underlines our commitment to keep up with the latest developments to achieve our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility," added Al Tayer.

According to him, the move also contributes to Dewa’s global position as one of the largest and most efficient utilities, achieving the happiness of its customers and stakeholders.

Dewa, he stated, had always used the latest technological solutions and systems in its services and initiatives to contribute to achieving the goals of the Dubai Plan 2021 for Dubai Government to be proactive and creative in meeting the needs of individuals and society as a whole.

The Dubai utility firm has always adopted innovation and creativity as key elements in developing its services to improve efficiency of operations, said Al Tayer.

"Today, we have taken a new step in its smart transformation by partnering with Microsoft. This will contribute to enhancing our operations, improving efficiency, accelerating innovation, and making more achievements and successes," he added.

On the deal, Abu Ltaif said: "We are excited to be supporting Dewa in this step towards government modernisation and solidifying their efforts in realising goals set in accordance with the Dubai Plan 2021."
