Kuwait municipality inks GIS upgrade deal

KUWAIT, January 21, 2016

Kuwait Municipality has signed a KD602,000 ($1.97 million) deal with a pair of engineering firms to upgrade its geographical information system (GIS), said a report.

As per the contract, the implementation will be completed by Al Khatib Engineering Bureau in conjunction with Mousawi Engineering Consultant (MEC) within 15 months, reported the state news agency Kuna, citing a senior official.

The GIS is an integral component of the municipality’s development plans and it will be heavily relied upon to conduct several key tasks, particularly, mounting construction projects," Ahmad Al Manfouhi, the director general of Kuwait Municipality stated.

Describing the move a step towards fully adopting an information technology system, Al Manfouhi noted that a broad information system such as GIS would lead to increased productivity while facilitating the works of the municipality’s various departments.-TradeArabia News Service
