Kuwaiti fund backs Lebanon wastewater project

The state-run Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has signed a loan agreement with the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) for its wastewater networks and installations project in the Zahrani area of Lebanon, said a report.
The $126-million project will see implementation of wastewater networks in 62 villages, stretching in a geographical area of 22 km, and catering to around half a million people when completed, reported the businessnews.com.
The scope of work includes the construction of a primary wastewater treatment plant near the Zahrani power plant, as well as primary and secondary collection networks, it stated.
The first phase of the project has a value of KD18 million ($60 million).
The CDR is expected to prepare the terms of reference, launch the tender, and award the contract in 2016, the report added.
