UAE's 272-bed hospital project on track

DUBAI, October 19, 2015

Work is progressing well at the 272-bed Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital which is being built as per the highest international green building standards on a 54,000-sq-ft area in Dubai, UAE, said a senior health ministry official.

The premises meet the latest UAE requirements for energy savings and sustainability, thus earning the classification of ‘Gold Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Healthcare’ which is considered a one-of-a-kind accomplishment in the region, stated Dr Mohamed Salim Al Olama, the undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Health, after the site inspection.

Dr Al Olama said the establishment of the hospital was in line with the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership and the National Mental Health Programme.

"The ministry seeks to implement highly developed systems to build world-class health facilities and improve upon our existing services offered to people," he noted.

He was accompanied by Dr Youssif Al Serkal, the assistant undersecretary for the ministry’s hospitals sector and other senior officials.

The green building standards will enable the facility to save 40 per cent of power used for cooling, lighting and heating water as well as help in saving water and reducing the emission of harmful gases, said the official.

Because of its green building methods, Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital had last year won the award for the ‘Best Futuristic Design in the Middle East.’-TradeArabia News Service
