Study to improve Saudi transport projects 'on track'

TAIPEI, August 18, 2015

Key projects in Saudi Arabia to improve the safety, monitoring and quality of highway and bridge construction work, are in the advanced stage of development and on track for completion in 2017, according to a report.

The projects are a result of the agreements signed by The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and Saudi Arabia for the improvement of the kingdom's transportation and agriculture/fishing sectors, said the Saudi Gazette report.

The objective of the Transport Technical Cooperation Project is to implement transportation projects in co-operation with the Saudi Ministry of Transportation, it said.

It has also been tasked to review the design and quality of completed projects involving roads, bridges and drainage tanks.

The project aims to educate Saudi engineers and impart skills in engineering and structure and site supervision, design concept and engineering quantity calculation.

The project will also look into any problem in design and construction and make suggestions to Saudi government to improve the engineering quality in the future.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture and Fisheries Project seeks to establish micropropagation of Saudi Arabia’s date palm species, supplying high-quality and healthy seedlings to local farmers to grow, said the report.

It is aimed at cultivating 200 date palm seedlings by tissue culture and produce a new variety and at the same time manage the two-hectare date palm garden.

It also endeavours to provide Saudi Arabian researchers with guidance on using specific instruments and performing experiments relating to date palm cultivation.
