Al-Sadr power plant near Baghdad ...a Mapna project.

Mapna to build major power plant in Iraq

BASRA, Iraq, August 3, 2015

Iranian industrial group Mapna has won the engineering, procurement and installation contract for the $2.5 billion natural gas-fired power plant project in the Rumaila area of Basra, Iraq.

Work has started after 18 months of negotiations with the Iraqi government.

The plant is expected to add 3,000 MW of electricity to the Iraqi national power grid.

The Rumaila combined cycle power plant contract follows the successful implementation of Najaf and Baghdad Al-Sadr gas power plants, Mapna said.

The contract partners for the project are Mapna Group and Jordanian-Iraqi Shamara Holding Company.

Iraqi government has guaranteed the contract by issuing a sovereign guarantee letter, the company said.

The construction of the Rumaila Combined Cycle power plant will be implemented in four phases. This thermal power plant will be equipped with 12 gas and six steam turbines.

The manufacturing of the required turbines, power generators, electrical and control system and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) will be done by Mapna group companies. - TradeArabia News Service
