The new road to boost trade and tourism.

Oman-Saudi road link to be completed in October

MUSCAT, July 29, 2015

A road connecting Oman and Saudi Arabia is set to be completed by October this year, according to a report.

The road link will be of great advantage to those embarking on the Haj and Umrah pilgrimages, said the Saudi Gazette report.

The new road inside Oman is around 160 km while the road on the Saudi side will be about 519 km, while the current distance between the countries, via UAE, is about 2,000 km, it said.

The project will facilitate one border crossing point instead of four to benefit travellers from both countries.

The road will boost trade and tourism between the two GCC neighbours and will ensure the quick delivery of products. Moreover, movement of pilgrims between the two countries will become easier and faster, the report said.

“The Omani part of the road has been ready for some time. The road passes through the Empty Quarter, one of the largest sand deserts in the world,” it added.
