Skilled resources ‘key challenge for GCC construction’
DOHA, May 31, 2015
The availability of skilled resources is the key challenge currently in the construction and infrastructure scene in the Gulf region, a top official said.
“We find that specialist subcontractors are becoming very busy and as a consequence unreliable, hence the Al Khayyat Group’s strategy to expand on its own heritage and develop i- depth resources in all fields,” added Moataz Al-Khayyat, CEO of Qatar-based UrbaCon Trading and Contracting, in a report.
“It was this strategy that enabled the hroup to meet the challenge of the Sheraton project in Doha, Qatar, where some 16,000 employees were engaged during the peak period,” he added.
With respect to skilled labour, UrbaCon Trading & Contracting maintains investment in human capital through training and development, and it has a special division for labour training and development at different levels, ranging from ordinary labour to project managers, said Al-Khayyat.
“The contracting market needs trained labour to implement the urgent projects on time,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
