Byrne Looby Partners ... working on Doha metro tunnel design.

Irish group Byrne Looby wins big Gulf projects

DUBAI, April 22, 2015

International engineering services provider Byrne Looby Partners said it has won major contracts worth around Dh6 million ($1.63 million) in the Gulf region.

The projects include the design of a new quay facility in Dubai Maritime City - an extensive geotechnical consultancy role for Aldar, one of Abu Dhabi's largest developers - and utilities diversion and tunnelling design for Doha Metro's Green Line and Riyadh Metro's Line Five.

The announcement was made during the Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar led by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD.

Lauding the group for the win, Bruton said: "It is exciting and encouraging to see ambitious Irish companies like Byrne Looby successfully expand their presence in the Gulf states and I wish them continued success for the future."

Michael Looby, the managing director, said its team of experienced and responsive engineering experts specialise in delivering solutions for the water, marine, infrastructure and energy sectors.

"Byrne Looby Partners are now established in the marketplace and we are seeing a steady flow of repeat business from our clients, which is a nice position to be in. We also have proven in-region capacity and can now compete for the design of complex engineering projects where we can deliver value and successfully win them, the Doha Metro Green Line being a good example of such a project," he remarked.

"The firm entered the Qatari and Saudi market three years ago and has since opened offices in Dubai and Bahrain. The news demonstrates Byrne Looby Partners' successful growth in the Middle East and will lead to further employment in the region," he added.

The firm won the Deloitte 'Best Managed Company' award in 2014 and 2015, and an Engineers Ireland Excellence Award in 2014. Founded in Dublin, it has international offices in Cork, Belfast, Galway, Guildford and Manchester.

Brendan Flood, the international sales and partnering manager, Enterprise Ireland, who is accompanying Bruton on the trade mission, said: "Enterprise Ireland is committed to growing Irish exports to the Gulf region to six billion euros ($6.4 billion) by 2020. It is through contracts of this nature that this target will be achieved."

The trade mission to the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which has 63 Irish companies participating, continues until April 24.-TradeArabia News Service
