Egypt ... to be the gateway to Iraq for gas exports.

Egypt, Jordan plan pipeline to get gas from Iraq

AMMAN, February 24, 2015

Egypt and Jordan have announced a plan to build a natural gas pipeline from Iraq to Jordan, which will also provide both countries the gas to generate electricity, a report said.

The gas pipeline will transport 150 million cu ft of gas per day, the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mohamed Hamed was quoted as saying in the Gulf Base report, which cited Al-Araby al-Jadeed newspaper.

Egypt would be the gateway to Iraq to export gas associated with oil, Hamed explained, highlighting that Iraqi oil will be exported through Jordan and Egypt.

The gas deficit in Egypt is 1,500 million cu ft per day, while that of Jordan is 250 million cu ft per day, he said.

Jawad Abbas, the Iraqi Ambassador in Amman, said that his country, Egypt and Jordan have signed an agreement in this regard.

He added that the estimated cost of gas pipeline was about $16 billion to $18 billion.
