Diyar Al Muharraq ... racing against time.

Structural work completed on Bahrain's Dragon Mall

MANAMA, February 22, 2015

Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the leading urban developers in Bahrain, said it has completed the main structural framework of Dragon Mall and the Asian Dining Street in Dragon City well ahead of schedule.

A unique master-planned city for the people of Bahrain, Diyar Al Muharraq provides a wide range of housing options and quality lifestyle off the northern shores of Muharraq island. It also offers a cohesive mix of residential and commercial properties with a strong line-up of projects aimed at creating a long-term and sustainable township.

Set in the southwest corner of Diyar Al Muharraq on a 115,000-sq-m area, Dragon City is the first-of-its kind development in Bahrain.

It has a gross floor area of 51,000 sq m, approximately 750 individual retail store spaces, warehousing of 4,500 sq m, car parking for some 1,500 customer vehicles and incorporates an Asian Dining Street of some 6,000 sq m which is an architectural highlight in itself.

The project developer had appointed Nass Contracting for the construction of the first phase of Dragon City. The work on the project began last May and is due for completion by the middle of the year.

Dr Maher Al Shaer, the chief executive officer, said: "We at Diyar Al Muharraq are immensely pleased to be on target with the construction of Dragon City and all its related developments, notably Dragon Mall and the Asian Dining Street."

"Some of the core principles on which Diyar Al Muharraq lays its foundation are diligent and immaculate work ethics with punctual and prompt work rates, through never compromising on the precision and standards of work," he noted.

"Nass Contracting have yet again proven their ability to follow in that same vein as the work is being completed at such an impressive rate. With the main structural framework of Dragon Mall and the Asian Dining Street having already been built, the rest of the construction work should be completed also on target," stated Al Shaer.

Dragon City is a unique concept in Bahrain and is set to be a large-scale trade platform for the direct sale of Chinese goods, with options for retail and wholesale opportunities and a tourist and entertainment site with Chinese architectural and cultural aspects.

It aims to attract foreign investments that serve the national economy and allows for the provision of employment opportunities, in addition to meeting consumer demands.

"With the work nearing completion, we are in eager anticipation to officially introduce to the people of Bahrain the many facilities and amenities that Dragon City will have to offer," said Al Shaer.

According to him, Dragon City is a hugely significant part of the Diyar Al Muharraq project and aims to hold the same position in the kingdom as a whole as well, contributing in substantial degrees to the tourism and trade sectors and thereby, to the economy.

"Being a landmark project, Dragon City’s completion will be a milestone for us and we hope and expect it to be our stepping stone to further success, heralding an era of unprecedented prosperity," he added.

The Dragon City concept was launched in May 2012 following an agreement between Diyar Al Muharraq and Chinamex. Gulf House Engineering was appointed to take care of the design and supervision, while Baker, Wilkins & Smith Middle East (BWS) were roped in to offer cost consultancy services.

Real estate consultancy Cluttons was appointed as the leasing agent for the project in Bahrain.

On completion, the facility will offer a variety of Chinese products such as home appliances, household items, building materials, furniture, toys, machinery, garments, textiles, footwear and general merchandise.

The development is expected to draw in a multitude of visitors on a regular basis, which will include local consumers, trade customers and tourists.-TradeArabia News Service
