Dewa .... in race to complete energy projects.

Dewa extends bid deadline for clean coal project

DUBAI, December 30, 2014

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said it has extended the deadline for submitting bids for the construction of the first phase of the Hassyan Clean Coal Power Project to March 26, 2015.

Dewa's move to extend the bid by a further two months comes following a host of requests received from bidders in this regard, said a senior official.

The Hassyan project will be based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and CEO, said: "It is a key step in the implementation of the energy diversification strategy formulated by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, to introduce clean coal-based electricity generation into Dubai’s energy mix."

Through such ground-breaking projects, Dewa will continue to complete energy projects that also contribute to meeting Dubai’s growing energy requirements and support the sustainable growth of the emirate, he added.

Dewa had released the tender to qualified bidders on July 22. The first phase of the project has a capacity of 1,200 MW using coal, and is expected to be operational by 2020.-TradeArabia News Service
