Survey will help Bahrain authorities to gauge income levels.

Bahrain set to launch major homes survey

MANAMA, December 21, 2014

Bahrain is launching a major survey this month to help authorities develop vital economic and social programmes, a report said.

The year-long nationwide survey will gauge family income and expenditure in Bahrain, according to the Central Informatics Organisation (CIO), reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

It will target a random sample of 6,000 households in the country's four governorates - Muharraq, Capital, Southern and Northern.

The survey will provide a crucial database to planners and decision makers to develop programmes, as well as meet the requirements of public and private sectors, researchers and investors, CIO president Dr Mohammed Al Amer said.

The statistical survey will aim to measure citizens' living standards by estimating average income and expenditure of households.

In addition, it will help identify the basket of items for consumer price index, Dr Al Amer said.

The survey will cover 500 households each month to observe seasonal patterns.

Dr Al Amer said a team of trained personnel will conduct the survey. They have been selected based on their experience and communication skills.

A pilot survey was undertaken before launching the fully-fledged survey to improve content and methodology, he pointed out.

Team members have been issued identity cards and will carry detailed brochures and an official letter requesting households to co-operate with them.

Confidentiality and privacy of data is ensured under the law, Dr Al Amer said.

Information will only be published in a consolidated manner, without identifying respondents, he clarified. – TradeArabia News Service
