Kuwait university project to be ready by 2019

KUWAIT, December 1, 2014

Work has begun on the Sabah Al Salim (Al Shedadiya) University, a major project coming up on over six million sq m area in Kuwait, and is due for completion by 2019, said a report.

The main campus, which is about two-thirds of the compound's space, will comprise 11 faculties with 22 structures, as well as 11 buildings for sports, reported the Kuwait News Agency (Kuna).

The Al Shedadiya project is being executed on a fixed-time schedule and will take five years for completion, the report quoted Qotaiba Al Erzouqi, the head of the construction programme at Kuwait University, as saying.

About 35 engineers are involved in the project, which will feature separate campuses for male and female students, and green areas and ponds.

Project engineer Qais Al-Rayis said the campus was the fourth largest construction project and the first biggest educational development in the world, said the report.

The infrastructure of the university will include underground shelters that will connect to all faculties, it added.
