'Project...still in concept design stage'

Qatar’s Airport City project to be tendered after 2 years

DOHA, November 28, 2014

The invitation of tenders for the construction of Qatar’s Airport City project will be announced after the end of 2016, according to a recent report.

The multi-billion riyal project, spread over an area of about 10 sq km, will feature four circular zones - Business District, Aviation Campus, Logistics District and Residential District, said the Peninsula report.

It will be connected by a Green Spine parallel to the second runway of Hamad International Airport, it said.

“We are still in the concept design stage of the Airport City project, which needs to be developed further… so the announcement of the tenders will not be possible before another two years,” Abdul Aziz Mohammad Al Noaimi, chairman, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCCA), was quoted as saying.

More than 200,000 people will live and work after the completion of the proposed project, the report added.
