The Boardwalk at The Palm .... new waterfront attraction for
Dubai residents.

Nakheel awards Palm Jumeirah boardwalk deal

DUBAI, September 29, 2014

Dubai developer Nakheel said it has awarded a major contract to Overseas AST Company for the construction of a 11-km Boardwalk at Palm Jumeirah, a new waterfront attraction in Dubai, UAE, with a project value of Dh150 million ($41 million).

The Boardwalk, which will transform Palm Jumeirah’s 11-km protective crescent into a vibrant destination for walking, shopping and dining, includes an East and West Pier – each stretching 100 m out to sea – featuring glass-encased cafes and restaurants with extensive views of the Arabian Gulf, Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai skyline.

The piers, to be constructed at either end of the crescent, will each contain 1,000 sq m of decking, said a company statement.

Accessible from 14 points along the existing sidewalk and on the doorstep of an array of world-famous resorts on Palm Jumeirah’s crescent, The Boardwalk will be created by building over the rocks of the Palm’s breakwater.

It will be 6-m wide – more than double the width of the existing crescent path – with 30 kiosks, offering refreshments and souvenirs, throughout its 11-km length, it stated.

According to Nakheel, the construction is due to start by the end of the year, with anticipated completion in mid-2016.

"The Boardwalk at Palm Jumeirah, one of several new projects under way on the island, will be a big draw for Palm residents, the wider community of Dubai and the millions of tourists who visit Dubai each year," said a company spokesperson.

Palm Jumeirah is currently home to a growing number of world-famous resorts including Atlantis The Palm, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, Anantara, Kempinski, One & Only, Rixos, Sofitel, Waldorf Astoria and The Fairmont, with more on the way, including Nakheel’s own hotel and residential complex, The Palm Tower.

The other projects being developed by Nakheel on the Palm Jumeirah include Nakheel Mall, The Pointe and Palm West Beach.-TradeArabia News Service
