German technology giant Siemens has inked two contracts with Saudi Electricity Company for the construction of static var compensators (SVCs) at several substations in Saudi Arabia.

Siemens, a global powerhouse which innovates the electrical world and operates in the fields of energy, infrastructure, industry and healthcare, said SVC will be set up at Madinah East, Hail-2 and Al Jouf-2 380kV substations.

The contract was signed by Saudi Electricity Company CEO Ziyad Al-Shiha with Arja Talakar, the CEO of Siemens Saudi Arabia and Peter-Karlheinz Bruder, the head of energy transmission, Siemens Saudi Arabia.

As per the deal, Siemens will provide the Saudi utility firm with SVC plus and protection systems, transformers, switchgears, civil and electro-mechanical work within two years.

SVC plus — Siemens top notch technology will be used for the first time in the Kingdom to enhance the performance of the SEC transmission networks of Western and Central regions of Saudi Arabia, said the company in a statement.

The award of Madinah East, Hail-2 and Al Jouf-2 SVC projects to Siemens is another milestone in the continuous relationship between the two companies and has made Siemens a key player in the SVC market of Saudi, it added.

“The SVC construction will play a vital role in the stability of the network and smooth transmission of power in Madinah, Hail and Al Jouf regions particularly in the time of high demand during summer, Haj and Ramadan”, remarked Talakar.
