Solar power for Dubai park

Dubai, March 24, 2014

The Satwa Reservoir Park, one of the oldest parks in Dubai, will become the first solar-powered park in the emirate by the end of this year, a report said.

Municipal officials announced that 20 per cent of the project has been completed and once operational, the park will rely entirely on solar energy without using the public electricity connection to operate its lights and integrated irrigation network, said the Gulf News report.

The park covers an area of 1.5 hectares.

There are currently 103 public places in Dubai, including six major parks, two open beaches, four pond parks, 33 residential parks and 58 public squares, in addition to a number of parks under construction, the report added.
