Developers 'must pay property fees'

Dubai, March 19, 2014

Dubai developers have been warned by real estate regulators against claiming property fees from tenants, said a report.

The emirate’s Real Estate Regulatory Authority (Rera) pointed out that property fees must be paid by landlords, said the Emirates 24/7 report.

The developers must not resort to any means including suspending services to tenants, to claim fees unless they are specified in the emirate’s laws governing the real estate sector, a letter from Rera was quoted as saying.

"Claims for fees must be directed only to the landlord and not to the tenant. They must be in line with an invoice which should be attached to a letter of consent from Rera approving those fees without adding any other fees," it said.

The regulators also warned that violators would be fined, but did not specify the penalty, added the report.
