Water Garden City quay wall deal awarded

Manama, April 21, 2010

Bahrain-based Al-Bilad Real Estate Investment recently awarded a contract to build quay walls for its seafront project in the Seef district to AlHasanain, a top infrastructure and construction company.

The contract is for an amount exceeding $25 million for the first phase of the Water Garden City, according to a statement.

The contract includes the construction and implementation of quay walls (concrete walls) 3 km long to be completed with a period of two years.

Ziad Abdullatif Janahi, general manager of Al-Bilad Real Estate Investment, said that awarding the tender for the construction of the quay walls for the project Water Garden City to AlHasanain came after competitive bidding held in several phases and a series of negotiations and discussions with local contractors and external auditors.

“We are very happy to have reached this phase of development because finalising the tender for building the concrete walls for this project reflects our determination to move ahead with the construction of Water Garden City,” he said.

Janahi highlighted that since the establishment of this project, the board of directors was determined to create a unique venture. One of its goals was to reduce the usage of rocks used in marine protection, and this direction towards building quay walls will create a distinctive water-front for the Bahrain Seef District, he added.

Jassim Hussein, general manager of AlHasanain, said: “Being awarded the contract for this important project reflects the strong position of the AlHasanain Company since its establishment.”

“This experience reinforces the company’s capacity to implement large projects such as Qatar International Airport, the port of Ras Raya, the North City, and other government projects, contributed to the high rate of turnover for the company to the amount of BD15 million ($39.8 million) per year,” he added.

“During the tendering phase we underwent lengthy negotiations which took a lot of time and effort but the company managed to win the confidence of the supervising team responsible for the completion of this project and demonstrate its capability and efficiency to carry out such mega-projects,” Hussein said. – TradeArabia News Service
