UAE tops official development assistance donors

ABU DHABI, January 5, 2016

The UAE has been ranked first globally as the largest international donor of official development assistance, with a total of Dh18.36 billion ($4.9 billion) of developmental aid last year, according to a report.
 
This accounts for 1.26 per cent of gross national income, said the final report from The Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
 
Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, head of the UAE Committee for Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid, said, that occupying this position for the second year in a row reaffirms the UAE's commitment to its humanitarian mission, and the principles on which it was established. 
 
It also enhances its position as a humanitarian hub and a source of relief and aid to all friendly nations in the world, she said.
 
According to the final results published by the committee, Sweden came second with its development aid accounting for 1.09 per cent of its national income, followed by the Luxembourg with 1.06 per cent, then Norway in fourth place with one per cent. - TradeArabia News Service
