Saudi to fund $50m fibre optic project in Jordan

The Saudi Development Fund is set to fund a $50 million project to build a fibre optic network in Jordan, according to a report.
 
The network will cover the kingdom's central region and link hundreds of schools and other facilities, said the Emirates 24/7 report.
 
Two companies have submitted bids for the consultancy contract in the project and that it will be awarded in January, it said.
 
The project has been divited into three parts, including the consultancy services, main construction work and equipment supply, Nader Al-Thuneibat, secretary general of the Jordanian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, was quoted as saying.
 
The two remaining contracts would be tendered in the first quarter next year and that bids would be open for the private sector from Jordan and the Gulf countries.
 
The project is being funded by Saudi Development Fund, the report added.
