Al khaliji concludes internship programme in Qatar

DOHA, July 2, 2015

Al Khalij Commercial Bank (al khaliji), a leading Qatari bank, has recently concluded a month-long internship programme for Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar students.

The programme, which provided students with extensive exposure across business lines and branches, aimed at equipping students with skill sets and tools to prepare them to enter the banking sector job market, said a statement.

Fahad Al Khalifa, al khaliji group chief executive officer, said: “at al khaliji, we believe that supporting students through real world job experience will broader the horizon and enhance learning, while enabling them to discover their capabilities to grow professionally and explore career opportunities in the banking sector.

“This is part of our responsibility towards the community whereby we strive to foster an environment of economic prosperity and sustainable human development.”

The ten students from Carnegie Mellon Qatar joined al khaliji’s internship programme to help them gain practical experience by engaging in the bank’s working environment, and to familiarise them with the fields of personal banking, commercial banking, finance, operations, marketing and public relations under the supervision of al khaliji’s experienced and multi-disciplinary experts.

Dr Ilker Baybars, dean and CEO of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, added: “We would like to thank the management of al khaliji bank for the opportunity offered to Carnegie Mellon University students to gain practical experience; one that will expand their knowledge and help them on their future careers paths. We are confident that this is the first of many future collaborations with al khaliji.”

The programme guided the interns in identifying and building on their key strengths, exploring opportunities for higher education and career development, and getting a full perspective on the dynamics and particularities of the local and regional banking sector, said the statement.

It also allowed al khaliji to connect with prominent talents to join its growing team over the next few years, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
