Bahrain-Germany trade increases by $48m

MANAMA, May 22, 2015

Bahrain-Germany bilateral trade increased by about $48 million during the first four months of the year, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) chief executive Nabeel Al Mahmood has said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the "German Breakfast and Catalogue Show" at The Westin Hotel, City Centre Bahrain, yesterday, he said the economic partnership is growing and would get a further boost if the proposed free trade agreement between GCC states and the European Union were to be signed, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Organised by the German Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs, the second German catalogue show in Bahrain was jointly inaugurated by German Industry and Commerce for Saudi-Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen delegate Andreas Hergenroether and BCCI vice-chairman Othman Al Rayes.

The show featured more than 20 German exhibiting companies representing construction, engineering, fashion and lifestyle, communication, environment, chemical, infrastructure, industries, medical, petrochemical, recycling, security technology, water, waste water, consulting and food presented their products.

"The show is not just a presentation of German products and service but also a proof of the long lasting and sustainable business relations of our two countries," Hergenroether said.

"The German economy is not only an important trade partner for Bahrain, but equally an important technology and knowhow supplier for the Bahraini businesses," he added.

Al Rayes said the show offered an outstanding opportunity for German companies to get in touch with the Bahraini market.

"It creates and deepens relations between German companies seeking to enter the Bahraini market, and Bahraini companies looking for new and innovative products and partners," he said.

The visit of a high-ranking delegation from North Rhine Westphalia earlier this year underlines the importance of the growing Bahraini market to German economy.

The event was supported by Henkel, Lufthansa and MAN as the platinum sponsors, Porsche as the automotive sponsor and the Economic Development Board as the institutional sponsor.

The show will now move to Saudi Arabia and will continue in Dammam on Sunday, moving to Jubail on Monday, Riyadh on Wednesday and ending in Jeddah.
