UAE inflation jumps 3.7pc in January

Consumer inflation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)  jumped 3.7pc in January compared to the same period last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics figures.

It's the highest rate of inflation since 2009.

The infation rate rose 0.7 per cent from December 2014.

Housing and utility costs, which account for over 39 per cent of consumer expenses, rose 7.4 per cent from a year earlier and 2.5 per cent from the previous month.

Food and soft drink prices, which account for nearly 14 per cent of the basket, edged up 0.1 per cent year-on-year and fell 1.7 per cent month-on-month. - Reuters
