24,000 women have CRs....41pc of the total number registered

More women ‘are entering business’ in Bahrain

MANAMA, October 14, 2014

More women are setting up their own businesses in Bahrain than ever before, according to the latest statistics.

Almost 24,000 women now have commercial registrations (CRs) with the Industry and Commerce Ministry - 41 per cent of the total number of CRs registered, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

These figures were revealed by inJaz Bahrain executive director Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa yesterday, at an event held in Riyadat Mall to launch the latest edition of the Honour of Excellence for Bahraini Women Entrepreneurs Award.

Supreme Council for Women member Dr Duniya Ahmed told the GDN that the number of female CR holders now has seen a huge increase over previous years.

“Women CR holders constituted 38pc in 2013, while it was much lower in the previous 10 years,” she said.

“We are happy that we are overcoming challenges gradually and the latest figures reflect this - today the business sector has become a big growth area for women, unlike in the past.”

Meanwhile, Shaikha Hessa encouraged female entrepreneurs to register for the second edition of the Honour of Excellence award, which will be handed out next year.

“The award aims to encourage women to become more entrepreneurial - and the value of the award is the royal seal that it carries,” she said.

“It is about honouring Bahraini women who have been part of the kingdom's industry and economy, and it highlights that person's contribution to the country.” - TradeArabia News Service
